From “RADIANT REFLECTIONS”
Apocalypse of a mind
The world of appearances
Slips silently into
Space.
We are infolded within the
Divine.
We never externalized.
All that is imagined and known
Is from within.
Only mind creates a separation.
We are inside
God-ness
Which is within and
Formlessly
Everywhere.
God will be revealed
When mind is seen
&
Transcended.
KNOW THYSELF
Proclaimed the last Oracle of the Delphi.
Know thyself, and you will know God.
Like a leaf spiraling and turning in the wind,
So we whirl around,
Turning inward to see our
Own true Self.
This is the Mirror of Transformation,
Once seen, it disappears as we become one, as
The self recedes of its own accord.
Through a more detached, enlightened, neural-linguistic twist,
The witness turns around to see itself, witness itself witnessing…
Transcending the background of one’s mental matrix…
Disappearing within the quality of
Honorable Humility.
There is an inner roadmap within the circuitry of the body.
There is a body of light within that is the witnessing soul.
There resides the merging with the Divine.
At this stage of deep-seated meditation,
Yearning for Union grows.
A heart melts, a heart glows,
Growing intensively smaller,
Prostrating with
Awesome Awareness at the
CROWN OF LIGHT
Within one’s
Very own consciousness.
The eternal life force within all living forms.
The refreshing spring to everlasting consciousness,
True Fountain of Youth
State of the
Absolute!
DIVINE ALCHEMY
THE BREATHLESS STATE
The “Breathless State†elevates consciousness.

Sati, “She Who Isâ€
Fair Witness residing inside,
Seeing beyond veils within veils.
Feminine soul witnessing the
Subtle silent truth of the Now,
Transcending everything is how,
The Eye of Wisdom stares with no cares,
Radiating everywhere,
So very freely.
Sat is the root,
Sat is truth in
Satipatthana meditative breath,
Seeing the mind beyond the mind.
Sat is awareness alive!
Siti Sulaiha, the inside-out woman
Who knows without knowing.
Born within the beauty of the noonday
Sun of one’s Sufi Self.
Seeing the subtle soul light as a
Verb of Being,
A synergistic convergent
Dynamic Dance of living lightly,
Creating manifest reality as it fl ows,
Seeing within the source as it glows, as
Resplendent Reflections, as
Vibrant currents of Zikr
Wisdom infused Light!
A L O H A: The joyful sharing of life energy, light, and consciousness in the very present moment!
NEXUS event Interview with the artist, 1996
Q: How did you first become involved in you Art?
A: Having always been artistic by nature, there have been what I call Inspirational Moments
which have transformed my inner, and thus my outer reality.
In 1968, I lived in France for a year studying language and art. It was then that I first became
aware of my artistic creativity. In 1971, at the opening of the long-awaited Monet’s “Water
Lilies†exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, I by chance, pulled aside a black,
velvet curtain to a room ,as I lifted away this veil of darkness, silence and light emerged as
if another space existed beyond the museum walls. A large luminous, translucent screen
glowed with colors and organic patterns … orchestrated as a concert of Light … the “Lumia
Suite†of Thomas Wilfred, an artist of the early 1900’s. I was amazed!
The water lilies paled in comparison.
This dynamic use of light and color inspired me to create my own language of light on fi lm,
with complementary music, Zen bamboo flute, Eric Satie, and classics … a Music-Image art
form, an archetypal portrait of the inner reality shown through self-refl ective and meditative
states of consciousness.
Around the same time I read Expanded Cinema by Gene Youngblood, with a preface by
Buckminster Fuller. I later had the honor to meet and know Bucky. Cinemagraphic reality
was then changed for me, and likewise my art. The amazing abstract films of Jordan Belson
were above all, what inspired me, artistically and spiritually. Then, one evening I slept as a
guest in the gallery of the Museum of Holography in NYC, amidst the three-dimensional light
sculptures. My neurons, DNA spirals, perception of dimensional reality, and artistic vision
were forever transformed.
Using the artistic name of SATI, I eventually attempted to recapture these images onto
canvas. I used the veil painting techniques of Rudolph Steiner, the color theories of Goethe,
and the air brush to achieve these results. I lived in Boston during these years, doing
workshops, planetarium projections, one-woman shows, private teaching, using my paintings
in conjunction with therapy sessions, and performing music–poetry slide presentations at
special events.
Q: We see many universal, symbolic archetypes in your art - oriental scenes, references to
eastern philosophies, as well as an obvious statement of formlessness.
A: This is true, yet I have studied all the religions. I attended a small religious college for
women in eastern New York State. Their Human Dimensions Institute, sponsored such
speakers as Lama Govinda, Alan Watts, Esalen Institute leaders, healers from the around the
world, NASA physicists, and speakers who, in general, spoke of the inner, unseen aspects of
reality and the relationship with Truth in its Universal form. This then, was when “East meets
West†for my spiritual development. I then began my studies of the eastern philosophies
which were later to become an integral part of my life, my travels, and my art. Having
studied the various forms of religions and philosophies, I extracted the Essence and left the
form. This is also true of my art. The image of purity, clear and precise … the image of light
radiating within, the image of ‘open space’, within the heart, within the art … the qualitative
reality of subtle precision … the transcendent message which invites
Unity and Openness … these are the images I project.
Q: You work almost exclusively with subtle pastels, but they have a vibrant, luminous quality,
and often appear to consist of different levels of depth, creating a feeling of visual dimensions.
Is there a theory or philosophy directing this?
A: Art relates to perception, how we uniquely perceive reality, which is at one point relative,
subjective; at another point, beautifully ordered, precise, according to strict laws of the
universe. My art is an attempt to capture the juxtapositions of these two points of perception,
thus, the multi-dimensional aspect of this art. The subtle veils of pastel colors evoke a sense
of tissues of light … layers upon layers of colors infused with light. The physical reality
we normally see is a compression of these interwoven tapestries of light, color, vibration
and energy. Having studied color theory in depth … the scientific principles, the esoteric
research, the ancient theories … and of course, artistic applications of color … I realized the
strong impact color vibrations could have on the viewer. For example, the color green was
not accidentally created in such profusion in nature. The balanced nature of its structure and
vibrational quality is extremely healing. There is an inner meaning to each color, and within
each color there are subtler and subtler shades which, the fi ner they are, the more powerful
their effect on the state of consciousness of the viewer.
The paintings themselves are nothing, another illusion.
Yet depending on the state of the viewer, they may be inspired by what they see, and go on.
Q: What have been the important steps for you during your search? What paths have you
taken, or what has inspired you?
A: In the marketplace of Marrakech, Morocco thirty years ago, I saw the sign which stated,
Fana, Place of Annihilation. It became engraved within me, “obliteration of the self into the Divineâ€.
The second step was Know Thyself. This later was to become, Know your Self and you will know God. Most of my life has been spent seeking this knowledge on all levels, experientially,
psychologically, spiritually, qualitatively.
Finally, through the arts, the vision came, Seek the Light. I attempted to do this within and without, through my artwork. Essentially, being attracted to the Essence of things, I seek
within the form, then escape. Transcendence can then be found. From this comes Unity.
In 1982, I was living in Sri Lanka. I studied with a Beautiful Sufi Master. Once he said to me,
“Sulaiha, the Light is within you. If you carry the lantern it will become heavy. If you carry
the Light it is easy. The Light is Wisdom … it is subtle and light. If you do this, then you can travel anywhere, Lightly!â€
Q: What is the real purpose of your art?
A: I see them as Positive Images.
Images with a potent message for those who choose to see it.
They become what they behold.
Seek the source of Light,
All BLISSFUL living is within, and with each breath
Remember!
